The International Education MA Program is designed to prepare professionals who understand the international implications of their responsibilities and can utilize their knowledge and skills across international and cultural boundaries.
We are committed to linking theory and practice. As part of this commitment, each student is required to participate in a semester-long internship with an agency, office, or project involved in some way in international education and an accompanying internship course.
Students earn credit for their internship by making meaningful contributions to organizations here in New York, in other cities such as Washington D.C., and internationally.

Student Testimonials
My time with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been incredibly rewarding and an experience I would recommend to any student interested in working with refugee students and or non-profit work. The IRC has bi-weekly intern meetings where different teams from the IRC would present to us interns their daily routines, missions, and necessary skills to succeed in their work which made a large, global company feel more intimate and exposed interns to fields we might not have known of prior. I also pioneered a project surrounding AI and online safety targeted for both students and their caregivers that I intend to include on my CV as it demonstrates initiative, ability to fully execute a project including next steps, and strategic communication tactics tailored to desired audiences. The IRC is an extremely collaborative space where I believe any, and all, interns can soar to new heights!
Interning at OGS has reinforced my interest in higher education. My experience and skills have deepened my understanding of how institutions support diverse student populations, particularly international students, and how policy, advising, and programming intersect to shape students’ academic and personal experiences. As a result, I feel confident pursuing a career in international education, especially, in roles involving student advising and policy implementation. Furthermore, my experience with mentorship and cross-cultural communication has further shaped my commitment to student-facing roles that prioritize access and holistic support.
I would recommend NYU’s Office of Global Services to future students in the program because it offers valuable, hands-on experience in international education, specifically, providing insight into how international student services operate within a university. Interns take on
meaningful responsibilities including advising students, managing Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records, and supporting programming, which builds both technical and interpersonal skills.
