Linda Carter (STEINHARDT '74) Receives 2019 NYU Alumni Association's Meritorious Service Award
The NYUAA's Meritorious Service Award is presented to a respected and distinguished graduate of any school, college, or division of NYU who has demonstrated extraordinary service and continuing devotion to their alma mater and who embodies the University motto: Perstare et Praestare, to persevere and to excel.
Jemar Bather is a biostatistics doctoral student and a HIV/AIDS Training Grant Fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. After earning a master’s degree from NYU Steinhardt’s Program in Applied Statistics for Social Science Research, he served as a research assistant in the Department of Biostatistics at the NYU College of Global Public Health, where he built statistical models to address health disparities in breast cancer, obesity, health literacy, and patient decision-making.
Trudy Schwarz is the department’s oldest living alum at age 100. Her advice for students at the beginning of their careers? “Stay active and interested physically and mentally.”
Drama Therapist Vera Trifunovich (MA ’96) is the founder and executive director of Bare Breasted Against Breast Cancer, a website that helps breast cancer survivors heal each other by sharing their stories and creativity.
