Steinhardt Alumna Jennifer Smolos Steele to Become Dean of Shenandoah Conservatory

Dr. Jennifer Smolos Steele, an NYU Steinhardt Music and Performing Arts Professions alumna, has been selected as the new dean of Shenandoah Conservatory, where she will lead more than 650 students and 100 faculty, focusing on innovation, financial growth, and career-readiness while preserving the conservatory’s rich legacy. At NYU Steinhardt, Steele earned multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (Music Theatre), a Master of Music in Vocal Performance, an advanced certificate in vocal pedagogy, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership. She also worked as an adjunct faculty member in the department from 2010 to 2019. She has held faculty positions at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and is currently dean of the School of Visual and Performing Arts at College of the Canyons.  As a performer, Steele has appeared in regional theatre, tours, and Off-Broadway productions, while her research explores how performing arts institutions prepare students for professional success in an evolving industry.
