Study Abroad
As a student in the International Education program, you can incorporate extraordinary global experiences into your course of study. The International Education program faculty specifically designed a course, International Development and Education, during the summer in Accra, Ghana, which explores practical questions of international development and education, including site visits and interactions with schools, state agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
The International Education Program has also recently launched two new study abroad experiences: Artistic Activism, Social Justice, and Radical Education in a Third Space, which takes place in Buenos Aires, Argentina during the January term and the Politics, Migration, and Education program, which will take place in Florence, Italy during the summer term.
Additionally, NYU Steinhardt offers one of the most extensive graduate study abroad programs in the country! You may participate in a study abroad program in January, over Spring Break, or during the summer in such locations as India, South Africa, Argentina, China or Brazil.
Intern Abroad
NYU Steinhardt and the International Education Program also offer an incredible set of internship opportunities in Accra, Ghana. In the past, students have designed and implemented community-driven development projects for international organizations, local government departments and schools, and NGOs, with such organizations as BASICS after school programs for marginalized children and youth, the Human Rights and Advocacy Center, and NYU Accra itself.
I spent the summer in Ghana to complete my internship at the Human Rights and Advocacy Centre in Accra. During my internship I conducted research on human rights violations in West Africa, with a focus on education. I had the opportunity to attend conferences with local chiefs, civil service organizations, and government officials. My entire experience in Ghana was amazing and allowed me to gain a practical understanding of what it can be like to work in the field of international development."
