The Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy is a uniquely-designed advanced certificate program for US-licensed physical therapists seeking to specialize in the area of orthopedic physical therapy. As a resident of this post-professional certificate program, you will obtain advanced orthopedic knowledge and clinical skills through rigorous course work and paid internships. Official Degree Title
The Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy program will train you to be a well-rounded orthopedic physical therapy specialist through a unique course of study led by highly-skilled faculty in a dynamic environment.
The certificate offers a two-component curriculum:

You will take six courses that are scheduled throughout the year. These courses focus on advanced anatomy, physiology, pathology, and examination and intervention skills of the musculoskeletal system, as well as evidence-based orthopedic physical therapy.

You will complete a clinical component consisting of three paid internship experiences averaging 1,500 total hours. These internships offer a rich experience that includes patient care, mentorship, case presentations, teaching assistance, and physician contact hours.
The certificate is completed in 12 months.
The first American Physical Therapy Association-credentialed program of its kind in the New York-metropolitan area, the Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy is a post-professional certificate designed to provide licensed physical therapist advanced orthopedic physical therapy knowledge and clinical skills.
Upon completion, you will receive an Advanced Certificate in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and be prepared to take the Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OSC) exam for certification.
After completing the certificate, you will be prepared to take the rigorous Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OSC) exam and advance your credentials as practicing physical therapists.
Accreditation Information
The NYU Clinical Residency Program in Orthopedic Physical Therapy is accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education as a post-professional residency program for physical therapists in orthopedic physical therapy.
Most Recent Outcomes
Based on information collected on the class of 2019, student outcomes were as follows: the pass rate for both graduation and the OCS (orthopedic clinical specialist) exam was 100%.
