A child who repeats the first grade is more likely than any others to drop out of school. The most effective way to prevent this is to intervene early, and to ensure that the child is ready and able to cope with the transition into elementary school. We also have to be sure that the school is ready for the children as that run through the school doors for the first time. The setting needs to be prepared to meet the developmental needs of children who come there to learn.
