The 30-36 credit MA in Teaching Dance in the Professions (ABT Pedagogy) uniquely prepares you for a successful career teaching ballet in private studios, in conservatories, as a teaching-artist, and in community settings. As an established ballet dancer and choreographer, you’ll partner with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) to enhance your pedagogical training, deepen your knowledge of historical and cultural ballet contexts, and emerge as a research-informed and proficient teacher balancing pedagogy, artistry, and research.
Core Course Sequence
You’ll take classes in dance education research, teaching creative movement, methods and techniques of teaching dance, and the history, culture, and pedagogy of dance. Specialized electives blend ballet pedagogy, research, and arts management course work with master classes in ballet technique. The program culminates in a final research project addressing issues in dance education.
