All Education Studies majors are highly encouraged, but not required, to participate in an internship. Through internships you learn foundational skills necessary to succeed in an education-related job, you gain networking opportunities, and benefit from mentorship. The Education Studies Internship class (EDST-UE 1605) was designed to provide students academic credit for internships in sites related to education.
Course Qualifications
Students must be a sophomore, junior or senior, in good academic standing (minimum GPA of 2.0). However, students with a GPA lower than 3.0 should consult with their advisor to discuss their workload and the appropriateness of this course. In some cases, the program may not permit a student to register if there are academic concerns. Lastly, students requesting permission to take this course must already have secured or are in the process of finding an internship placement.
Additional qualifications for international students:
- You are only allowed to count EDST-UE 1605 in your restricted electives. Plan early and leave room to be eligible for the class. Speak with your advisor if you are unsure if you have met this requirement.
- You will need to contact the Office of Global Services and apply for Curricular Practical Training authorization (CPT). Failure to receive CPT authorization will prevent you from participating in the internship.
