The New York University PhD in Clinical/Counseling Psychology program is an on-campus academic program designed to enable a graduate to meet the educational requirements to qualify for professional licensure as Psychologist in New York and certain other states. The program includes supervised field experiences both within and outside of New York State (NYS) to provide comprehensive training. If you are interested in having a placement outside of New York state, please contact A. Jordan Wright to discuss if this is possible.
Because state regulations change frequently, the information provided here may be subject to change. We encourage prospective students to review current licensure requirements before applying. The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) offers a helpful resource for understanding licensure requirements in the United States and Canada.
To become a licensed psychologist in the United States and Canada, candidates must pass the EPPP (Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology) and meet additional state specific requirements, which may include passing a state jurisprudence exam and a criminal background check.
After reviewing the below list of states where the program meets the academic requirements for licensure, please check with A. Jordan Wright if you have additional questions about whether our program meets the educational requirements for licensure in a specific state.
