Only in New York is a virtual programming initiative at NYU Steinhardt that provides an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek into some of New York City’s most iconic sites and experiences.
These featured experiences are virtually accessible to everyone in the Steinhardt community, and everyone interested in learning more about our School. Most of them are connected to the work our faculty and students are engaged or interested in, while others highlight the beauty and excitement of the amazing city we are located in and expose topics impacting our city. Many of these events will also allow for participant engagement via Q&A and live chats in the virtual setting.

Music and Performing Arts Professions Chair, Professor of Jazz Studies, musician historian, and author Dave Schroeder speaks with iconic saxophonist and SNL bandleader Lenny Pickett about the inner workings of the award-winning, late-night comedy show where Pickett has worked since 1985. This discussion included a live Q&A with attendees.

Enjoy this interactive, hands-on, authentic Italian cooking class taught by Executive Chef Jordan Frosolone of The Leopard at des Artistes, one of the finest Italian restaurants in Manhattan, which mixes Italian cultural traditions, quality of ingredients, hospitality, and outstanding service. The live event featured an intimate tour of The Leopard at des Artistes, which has been featured in many movies, led by owner Gianfranco Sorrentino.

A Look Inside Hamilton: An American Musical
Professor Ana Flavia Zuim, director of Vocal Performance in the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, gives an intimate look inside Hamilton: An American Musical, which won 11 Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and a Grammy Award and was written and directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Professor Flavia speaks with:
- Ian Weinberger, music director of Hamilton and current Jazz Studies master's student at Steinhardt
- Hannah Ryan, associate director of Hamilton and adjunct faculty member at Steinhardt and Tisch
- Nik Walker, who has played nearly every male role in Hamilton including Hercules Mulligan, James Madison, Aaron Burr, George Washington, and ensemble; he is also an adjunct professor at Tisch
