The Office of Faculty Affairs is committed to fostering faculty development at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Generally, the Office seeks to assist faculty in all aspects of their career, from appointment to retirement. In this regard, the Office will work with individual faculty members and department chairs on creating, implementing, and facilitating policies and practice at the School.

This calendar outlines the actions required during the Mandatory Tenure review process; the timeline illustrates the expected length of the review process from start to finish. Please note that departments are at liberty to impose internal guidelines that are more suitable to their operations.

Mandatory Tenure Review Calendar

Faculty Affairs: Notification to Candidate and Department Chair of the upcoming review April  April 
Candidate: Submits updated CV to Department Chair  May October
Department: Chair selects Promotion Committee members  May October
Candidate: Prepares docket materials for submission May-October  October-January
Department: Creates list of External Reviewers and submits it to Faculty Affairs for approval September December
Department: Email solicitation letters to approved External Reviewers  September December
Department: (Via Interfolio) Send docket materials to approved External Reviewers; External Reviewers return their CV and the review letter by the proposed deadline November - December February - March
Department: Follow-up to ensure External Reviewer CV and Review Letter is uploaded in Interfolio January  April 
Department: Committee uploads recommendation letter to Chair into Interfolio February May
Department: Chair uploads recommendation letter to Dean into Interfolio March August

Candidate: Meets with Faculty Affairs to discuss promotion case  October-November
Department Chair: Selects Departmental Promotion Committee members  November
Department: Creates list of External Reviewers and submits it to Faculty Affairs for approval November
Department: Emails solicitation letters to approved External Reviewers  December
Candidate: Prepares docket materials for submission October-February
Department: (Via Interfolio) Sends docket materials to approved External Reviewers; External Reviewers return their CV and the review letter by the proposed deadline March
