Due to concerns related to the Coronavirus outbreak, this intensive has been canceled for 2020.
Join NYU Steinhardt’s esteemed faculty and visiting clinicians while studying the business, pedagogy and history of Broadway! This week-long professional development intensive gives educational professionals the opportunity to refine and enhance their musical skills via masterclasses, lectures, and symposiums dedicated to music theatre.
The schedule will feature roundtable discussions with industry professionals including active contractors, conductors and musicians who have years of experience of Broadway. Participants will also attend three Broadway shows throughout their stay in New York!
All attendees will participate in performance-based workshops that will cultivate the skills needed for music theatre production including preparation, sight reading (using actual Broadway books as material), the business of Broadway, chamber and large ensemble performance, technology on Broadway, and more.
The entire class will participate in daily readings of past and present Broadway shows, offering ample opportunities to develop their instrument-specific skills set within a musical pit ensemble. Conducting classes will be held daily developing proficiency for music directors and conductors. Topics studied will include: score study, musical analysis and conducting techniques for Broadway ensembles.
No audition is required. The course will count as 30 hours of professional development.
