Music and Performing Arts Professions

NYU Steinhardt offers an array of performance opportunities for a range of musicians and vocalists. Performances take place throughout the academic year, both on campus and at venues across New York City. Many ensembles are credited courses for which students register. 
The entire NYU community is encouraged to audition for Steinhardt ensembles.

Chamber Music Ensembles

Chamber music is an essential part of your instrumental performance education at NYU Steinhardt. Chamber music ensembles are organized through each instrumental program.

Wind Symphony

The ensemble explores both significant, traditional repertoire and new repertoire by living composers who write for woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

Jazz Ensembles and Orchestra

Jazz students can join celebrated musicians in ensembles dedicated to the original compositions of jazz legends, world music, and improvisation.

New Music Ensembles

Chamber Music, 20th-21st Century; NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble

Orchestral Ensembles

NYU Symphony, NYU Chamber Orchestra, and NYU Broadway Orchestra

Percussion Ensembles

These ensembles focus their repertoires on the seminal works of the 20/21st centuries.

Saxophone Orchestra

The ensemble’s repertoire spans all styles, from traditional to contemporary music and students have an opportunity to perform on the entire family of saxophones.

Vocal Ensembles

Background Vocal Recording Techniques, Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, Pop/Rock Ensemble, Unplugged Ensemble, and Village Voices.

NYU Pipes and Drums

Performs at University and other functions throughout the year, including graduation-week ceremonies.
