Proposed Performance: Wednesday, April 28, 2027, at 8:00 PM in Frederick Loewe Theatre (pending confirmation).
Open to all MPAP students, this dynamic course invites you to rehearse and perform duets, trios, and full ensemble numbers from classic and contemporary musical theatre. You'll work hands-on with iconic material that challenges and inspires, all while learning to tell compelling stories through acting, singing, and movement.
From in-depth character analysis and vocal coaching to staging and group collaboration, every rehearsal is a step toward a fully memorized, fully staged public performance. Along the way, you'll refine your musicality, vocal blend, dramatic clarity, and stage presence in a supportive, high-energy environment.
Whether you're looking to grow as a performer, connect more deeply with your peers, or experience what it takes to create a professional-level ensemble piece, this is the course that will take you there.

Who Can Register
All MPAP undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to audition. Submissions can be made via this FORM. Students from other NYU programs may also be considered, subject to eligibility and available space.
Auditions are required for all prospective participants.
Priority enrollment will be given to Vocal Performance students fulfilling curricular requirements. Additional students will be considered based on audition results, demonstrated ensemble musicianship, and space availability, with a maximum of five additional students per section.
Credit
This ensemble must be taken for 1 credit.
Audition Information
Students interested in participating in the Spring 2027 Musical Theatre Ensemble must complete the audition FORM and submit two required videos demonstrating their vocal, dramatic, and ensemble musicianship skills.
Video Audition #1: Musical Theatre Solo (Required)
Submit a video performance of one musical theatre solo song of your choice, accompanied by a live pianist or instrumental backing track (no a cappella performances).
Your selection should showcase your vocal abilities, musicality, dramatic interpretation, and storytelling skills within the musical theatre genre.
Video Audition #2: Harmony Singing (Required)
Submit a short video demonstrating your ability to sing and sustain an independent harmony part within an ensemble setting.
Sing an independent harmony line (not the melody) along with a recording or accompaniment that includes at least one other vocal part. Your harmony line should remain clearly audible throughout.
The demonstration should be approximately 30–60 seconds long and showcase your ability to maintain your assigned part independently while singing alongside other vocal lines.
Additional Audition Information
Briefly describe your previous ensemble singing experience, ability to learn and maintain independent harmony parts, and level of proficiency in sight-reading music.
You may also submit an optional third video and indicate your interest in being considered for a choreographer role in addition to performing.

Attendance is mandatory for all rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.
Students are expected to arrive prepared, demonstrate the ability to learn and sustain independent vocal parts, and actively contribute to the collaborative ensemble process.
Students are required to memorize all assigned material and participate fully in all assignments, including peer feedback and reflective journals.
Students are responsible for purchasing or printing assigned scores.
