Music and Performing Arts Professions Ensembles

The NYU Broadway Orchestra offers an unparalleled experience for the next generation of Broadway musicians. Mentored by music director Ted Sperling and  artistic advisor John Miller, the NYU Broadway Orchestra provides its students access to the rich performance opportunities offered in the world of musical theatre.

About the Ensemble

The NYU Broadway Orchestra is comprised of students committed to mastering the skills required for a successful career in staged productions, pit orchestras, and opera. Guided by industry professionals, students will study and perform theatre repertoire ranging from the nineteenth century operettas, to contemporary musicals, from iconic 1950's shows to today's pop and rock productions.

Students will learn the skills required in the course of preparing a show for Broadway production, relating to sight reading (using past Broadway books as material), recording protocols, music business, chamber and large ensemble performance, technology, and theater history.

The NYU Broadway Orchestra presents an unmatched opportunity for guidance and mentorship, and the chance to work with legendary music directors, conductors, and performers. This ensemble provides the ideal environment for students to study, learn, and flourish in the world of Broadway.
