The 31-credit MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Non-Certification) equips you with the inquiry-based teaching methods and language, literacy and linguistics training to teach English to speakers of other languages at the college level or abroad. You’ll learn from your peers and understand the power of multilingualism as an additive resource in the classroom and beyond.

Core Course Sequence & Culminating Experience

You’ll take core foundation classes in linguistic analysis and American English, as well as language, culture, and education courses in bilingual and multilingual education. An optional practicum experience at a language school provides you with the opportunity to integrate your studies with firsthand, experiential learning, preparing you to teach English to students from diverse linguistic, educational, and ethnic backgrounds. The program culminates in a seminar, where you’ll observe language teaching in the field in a variety of local educational settings.
