ARTCR-UE 10 Art: Practice & Ideas 4 Credits
'Art: Practice and Ideas' examines key developments in the visual arts from modernity to the present. Focusing on the ways in which representations both create and reflect the values of a society, the course introduces students to the full range of expressive possibilities within the visual arts, covering painting and sculpture, as well as photography, film, video, conceptual art, and computer media. Topics to be covered include classical, modern, and postmodern relationships to politics, vision, the mind, the body, psychology, gender, difference, and technological innovation. Students will see and understand how artists have integrated perceptions of their historical moment, as well as physical and social space, into creative practices that have, in turn, had a significant impact on the culture of the time.

EDCT-GE 2252 Artificial Intelligence for Data Analysis in Education 3 Credits
This course explores how AI is transforming the collection, analysis, and use of educational data to understand and improve learning. As digital platforms and sensor-based systems generate increasingly rich data, educators and researchers use machine learning and large language models to uncover patterns, generate insights, and support decision-making at scale. The course introduces AI methods for data analysis through three lenses: conceptual foundations for interpreting evidence, hands-on experience with AI-augmented analysis and visualization, and critical examination of ethical, institutional, and societal implications. Students work with real educational datasets to study data preparation, exploratory, predictive analysis, dashboards, and analytic sense-making, while addressing validity, bias, data rights, and responsible AI use. No prior technical background is required.

education are generative in-between spaces or what we are calling “third spaces” that allow us to imagine new ways of learning and working together, relating to each other, and imagining an alternative humane and just world. This course explores these third spaces through a multi-sensory, interdisciplinary and experiential way of learning in order to capture their embodied nature: readings, artworks, creative workshops, field trips, art projects, and guest lectures.

ART-GE 2102 Artistic Activism as Radical Research 2 Credits
Artistic activism is a practice grounded in envisioning new ways of acting and
thinking in our communities in order to create social change. It challenges the notion that art practice, research, and social activism are discrete entities. As a form of “militant” or radical research, this praxis based class focuses on a range of different forms of artistic activism as casestudies to understand how artists use creative research strategies to engage with communities, social movements, and cities. A major part of the class focuses on collaborative fieldwork in the public realm or in communities.

Arts organizations rely on the support and sponsorship of public and private agencies and individuals. This course focuses on current issues and approaches to building public understanding and legislative support for the arts, and examines the context and growth of arts advocacy in the U.S. Students will develop hands-on skills to initiate and sustain effective relationships with policy makers and other arts stake holders. Topics include cultural policy, the arts economy, political structures and processes, coalition building, cultural diplomacy, as well as internet and media advocacy.

ARVA-GE 2912 Aspects of the Art World
Overview of the multifaceted experience of being a solo art dealer, owning a gallery or being part of a gallery team. Topics include working with and establishing a name for artists; placing works in collections; developing relationships with collectors; working with auction houses, art fairs, and biennials; marketing and publicity; and exploring how galleries best work with museums and other non-profit organizations. Students develop a focused understanding of the art dealer’s/gallerist’s role in the global art world and learn how to manage art galleries.

CSCD-GE 2079 Assessment and Intervention for Multilingual Learners in CSD 3 Credits
This course integrates foundational information about bilingual/multilingual aspects of speech and language and provides an overview of assessment and interventions for multilingual learners with communication disabilities. Monolingual clinicians can use this course to learn about culturally and linguistically responsive assessment and intervention and how to access and use resources. Fulfills requirements from the NYS Department of Education to attain a bilingual extension to the certificate of Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities.

Covers assessment and evaluation of students with disabilities across school settings, includes referral processes with family and child-study teams. Addresses use and development of formal and informal assessment tools; and testing, modification, and accommodation strategies. Knowledge/skill development focus on collection and interpretation of student-level data for curricular and instructional decision-making. Disproportionality and historical testing biases, tiered approaches and team-based models of problem solving also addressed.

MPADT-GE 2135 Assessment in Drama Therapy and Psychodrama 3 Credits
This course provides students with a foundation in assessment in drama therapy and psychodrama. Assessment in this context includes the use of all forms of dramatic media such as improvisation, role-playing, storytelling, masks and puppets to gain knowledge and understanding of the people who drama therapists work with in order to write and facilitate a treatment or program plan in clinical and community settings.

Introduction to informal & formal assessment procedures currently used in schools. Includes classroom observation, interviewing, & psycho-educational tests. Integration of information pertinent to educational performance will be highlighted, interpretation of various school-related tests will be emphasized, & school records & background information will be incorporated. Assessment practices employed in the determination of special education classification are highlighted. Students are encouraged to take this course concurrently with their fieldwork or practicum.

MPAET-GE 2988 Assessment of Student Work in Drama 1 Credit
This intensive course is designed for graduate students, and junior and senior high school teachers who want to learn strategies for assessing student achievement in drama work. Participants will review the principles, approaches, and current trends in assessment and will learn to assess student program in dramatic work by designing effective rubrics. Participants should be prepared to complete a short reading assignment, participate in drama work and writing exercises, &, after the course is complete, prepare an assessment model based on a curriculum unit of their choice.

Enables the student to: understand the physical properties and biomechanical principles of devises and equipment; to prescribe, apply, and fabricate as appropriate adaptive, orthotic, protective, supportive, and prosthetic devices and equipment for ADL and IADL; to analyze their use during ADL and IADL; and to evaluate the limitations and indications/contra indications of devises and equipment. The course enables the student to practice fabricating adaptive, supportivew, and protective devices.

Students explore a range of assistive technology (AT) applications for school children with both high and low incidence disabilities impacting learning, physical access, cognition, and communication. This course emphasizes the integration of AT into effective instructional and therapeutic practices that improve learning and participation outcomes and is grounded in theory. Students review research on best practices for assessments and implementation of tech-based solutions. They explore the actual tools that provide access to learners.
