Education Studies student Kate Cabigao

Kate Cabigao

Hi! My name is Kate Cabigao. I am a sophomore, majoring in Education Studies. I have a great interest in and have had experience in curriculum development, teaching Art to children, putting together internship programs for High School students, and advising children as well as my peers. My dream is to become a blogger, counselor, and mentor to others. I hope coming out of this four years, I will be well-equipped and more driven than ever. I would love to start my own blog sharing some of my major life learnings, a foundation that caters to Filipino students who need support in making informed, educational and career decisions, and open up my very own kindergarten back in the Philippines. Creating a safe, open, connected, and intimate atmosphere is what I want to be able to bring back to the Philippines when it comes to counseling and its education system. I want to help everyone find and capitalize on their strengths by making the most of what they are and do have.

Education Studies student Angelina Quezada

Angelina Quezada

Hello! My name is Angelina Quezada and I am currently a junior majoring in Education Studies. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area where my love for education formed. I was privileged enough to receive a quality private school education thanks to my hardworking mother who happens to be a teacher, however, I realized that as a person-of-color my experience was an exception and did not reflect the educational options for a  majority of my community.  I have grown extremely passionate about understanding and resolving how U.S. schools have failed so many students. This fall semester I am studying at NYU’s D.C. campus where I am analyzing U.S. policy as well as interning at Center for American Progress on the K-12 Education Policy Team. I can honestly say that after my brief two months here I’ve realized working directly with students is the next step for me. I believe every student deserves a quality education regardless of race, socioeconomic status, ability, gender, etc. and I want to directly help make this happen.

Education Studies student Phuong Nguyen

Phuong Nguyen

Hi everyone, my name is Phuong Nguyen and I am currently a sophomore major in Education Studies. I was born and raised in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is almost a 24-hour flight from New York. The first time I researched for my college application, I was immediately drawn to this Education major offered by NYU. There are so many teaching programs out there; however, Ed Studies provide me with broader knowledge about global education, as well as different education policies. Ed Studies can certainly support my dream of being an education administrator, who could contribute to equal and quality education for everyone, especially Vietnamese children in rural areas.

Beside my academic career, I also function as a human being with a lot of hobbies. In my free time, I usually watch Criminal Minds and Kpop dances and my favorite food is Vietnamese food obviously.

Education Studies student Britney Forichon

Britney Forichon

My name is Britney Forichon, and I am a junior in Ed Studies. I was born and raised in Uptown Manhattan, and have lived in NYC for most of my life. I am French and Surinamese, and I am a first generation American. My background allowed me to become a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, especially in the field of education. When I graduate, I would like to work for UNESCO, and help foster diversity in education through an international lens.

Jane Phan

Hi Everyone! My name is Jane Phan and I am currently a Sophomore in the Ed Studies Program! I’m from Boston, so home isn’t too far away for me, but I absolutely love being here in New York. Education has always been an interest of mine beginning at a young age when I would watch my mom develop lesson plans for her own preschool students. Over the years I’ve worked as a Montessori camp counselor, a Studio Art teachers’ assistant, and a daycare assistant, but I am so happy that education studies has given me the opportunity to learn about the bigger picture behind education as a nuanced system and an essential human right. Education and the arts are my two passions, so I hope to end up somewhere in the middle, working to make public arts and creative opportunities accessible for students everywhere!

Tiana Fanniel

Hey! I’m Tiana Fanniel, a senior in the Ed Studies and Linguistics programs. I was born and raised in the close by suburbs of New Rochelle but I’ve always been a city person at heart. My mother has operated a daycare for over 10 years and her love of teaching and learning with the children inspired me to pursue a career in education. Initially I was a Childhood Education major training to become an elementary school teacher but I transferred to Ed Studies after realizing I’d prefer to work behind the scenes to advocate for and secure the support and resources that teachers need. In addition to aiding in my mother’s daycare, I’ve tutored English Language Learners, volunteered with Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, and am currently working in a community center in TriBeCa. I’m so glad to be a part of ESSC for another year and am excited to continue building up our Ed Studies community!
