SUMMER 2025Writing for advertising requires the composer to keep calm under the clock, and write creative, effective music in only a few hours. This crash-course workshop is led by the prolific Soundcat Productions founder Eric Hachikian (Marco Polo, When We First Met), and featuring panelists and presentations from top industry professionals from leading ad agencies such as Keith D'Arcy (Warner Chappell), Karen Macmillan (Imagem/Concord Music), and Jay Wadley (Found Objects Music Productions). In three short days, the NYU/BMI Music in Advertising Workshop will teach you how to:
- Compose quickly and efficiently, under real-world conditions
- Write effectively for advertising
- Compose ready-to-license production/library music

As a participant, your work will be critiqued by industry professionals such as Eric Hachikian and NYU Steinhardt’s acclaimed Screen Scoring faculty.

Application Requirements
- Fill out your personal information
- Submit a short statement introducing yourself and explaining your past experience in screen scoring. You may also submit, optionally, a one-page bio.
- Select the workshop (or workshops) you are interested in applying to, and specify if you are interested in applying as a participant or as an auditor.
- Submit 3-6 audio/video files to showcase your music. Submit your best work, regardless of its connection with the workshop you are applying to. We are not judging your past experience in the field, but your overall composing/production skills.
For each file, submit a PDF explaining the purpose or context of the piece/track, the composing process, technical details if applicable (libraries used, sound processors, software, etc.) and any other relevant information.
