Research Description/Bio:
The influence of culture on emotion regulation and suppression, as well as mental health interventions in the community. E.g. would emotion expression in Asian settings be encouraged relative to its impact within the individual’s networks? How do different cultures assess “healthiness” and how does this affect the type and intensity of emotions that one allows oneself to feel and express? How does this affect the preferred type and style of interventions – e.g. is CBT nuanced differently across cultures – and receptiveness of clients to get the help that they need, or for providers to effectively treat these clients?
