Research Description/Bio:

Brittany Matthews, Ed.M., M.Phil., is a Doctoral Candidate under the mentorship of Dr. Anil Chacko in the Counseling Psychology program at New York University. She is broadly interested in increasing access to and availability of evidence-based, culturally-informed mental health care for youth in under-resourced communities. Her current research examines the relationship between community social vulnerability factors and geographic availability of youth mental health care. Her research and clinical interests intersect at bridging the gap between research and practice, particularly for families and parents of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other behavioral concerns.

Before NYU, Brittany did research under Dr. Ebony Bridwell-Mitchell at the Harvard Graduate School of Education on how to maximize the potential of diverse teacher teams. She also worked at the University of Southern California under the mentorship of Dr. Stanley Huey on a project to assess the long-term impacts of a multi-systemic therapy intervention for suicidal and juvenile justice-involved youth.

Brittany graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Vanderbilt University and earned her Ed.M. in Prevention Science and Practice from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, with a concentration in Prevention Research.
