Steinhardt Human Resources provides opportunities for employee development and engagement throughout the year. Ongoing initiatives include the Steinhardt Leadership Program (offered every other year through an application process), New Hire Coaching Programs, monthly lunch and learn topics, new hire orientation sessions, Take your Children to Work Day (taking place on April 25, 2024), and the Steinhardt Recognition Event (taking place on May 21, 2024). 

Additionally, managers can request one-on-one training facilitated by Gabriel Lopez, Executive Director of Human Resources, to get information on HR policies and best practices, or to request personalized training on Coaching for Performance, and/or facilitated team building sessions utilizing DiSC® Assessments. Foundations of People Leadership Certificate Program

TLOD is excited to announce the newly redesigned Foundations of People Leadership Certificate Program (formerly Critical Skills for Emerging Leaders). This certificate program equips employees with the knowledge and skills needed for the role of a people leader at NYU. The program is open to all managers, including those new to the people manager role as well as more experienced managers interested in refreshing their leadership skills. Learn more about the redesign.

The certificate program is made up of three online courses available anytime and three instructor-led courses.

OEO 101: Preventing Discrimination and Harassment on Campus

This course will provide strategies for recognizing discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in the working and learning environments. Presenters will provide an overview of relevant NYU policies: Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy; Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence, and Stalking Policy; and Policy On Consensual Intimate Relationships. This interactive workshop will include hypothetical case studies for participants to practice applying the content to real-world scenarios. Participants will also learn about employee reporting responsibilities and available University resources. This 90-minute course is open to all NYU employees.

OEO 102: Preventing Harassment – Supervisor’s Workshop

Supervisors play an important role in preventing, identifying, and responding to harassment and discrimination in the workplace, and NYU holds supervisors to a heightened standard for reporting and responding to such issues. This course will provide important information about supervisory responsibilities at NYU, as well as strategies and resources for preventing discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. This interactive workshop will include hypothetical case studies for participants to practice applying the content to real-world scenarios. It is strongly recommended that participants first complete OEO 101 to fully engage in the content of this course. This 30-minute module is open to all NYU employees with supervisory responsibilities.

OEO 110: Employees with Disabilities and Workplace Accommodations

This course will provide practical tools for responding to requests for reasonable accommodation. NYU ensures that workplace accommodations are available for employees with disabilities or medical conditions, as well as employees seeking religious, pregnancy, University housing, or domestic violence accommodations. This workshop will focus specifically on workplace accommodations for employees with disabilities. Presenters will provide an overview of NYU procedures and resources for workplace accommodations, as well as applicable federal, state, and city laws. Participants will also learn strategies for hiring and retaining persons with disabilities, as well as inclusion and universal design concepts. This 90-minute course is open to all supervisors and HR Officers responsible for responding to requests for workplace accommodations.

OEO 120: Responding to Sexual Misconduct and Complying with Title IX

This course will provide practical tools for responding to disclosures of sexual misconduct, relationship violence, and stalking. Presenters will provide an overview of NYU’s Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence, and Stalking Policy and procedures, including University protocols for reporting such allegations. Participants will learn about resources available both on- and off-campus, as well as strategies for addressing emergency situations. Participants will also learn about Title IX and related federal and state laws. This interactive workshop will include hypothetical case studies for participants to practice applying the content to real-world scenarios. This 90-minute course is designed for faculty and staff, and is open to all members of the NYU community. It is highly encouraged for those in positions likely to receive complaints or learn of allegations of the above-referenced conduct.

OEO 200: An Introduction to Discrimination and Harassment Policies at NYU

In this self-paced interactive module, participants will receive information regarding relevant NYU policies: Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Complaint Procedures for Employees; Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence, and Stalking Policy; and Policy On Consensual Intimate Relationships. Participants will learn about employee reporting responsibilities and University resources. Participants will engage with interactive case studies throughout the module. This 30-minute module is open to all NYU employees.

Note: This course is intended as a brief refresher and does not fulfill the OEO 101 training requirement for new hires or the annual requirement to complete the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (OEO 150).

OEO 601: Best Practices for Inclusive Faculty Searches

This self-paced interactive module provides resources and tools for developing a recruitment strategy designed to mitigate unconscious bias at each stage of the search process. Participants will learn strategies to craft an inclusive committee, draw a diverse candidate pool, standardize the applicant screening process, and conduct effective interviews. Participants will also learn about resources available both on- and off-campus to assist with the recruitment process. This 30-minute module is open to NYU faculty and staff, and is encouraged for those who currently serve or anticipate serving on a search committee.
