MA, Teaching English, Grades 7-12, Professional Certification

The 30-credit MA in Teaching English, Grades 7–12 (Professional Certification) equips you with expanded pedagogical skills, theories, and strategies to teach literature, writing, and language arts. You’ll learn to link language development and literacy acquisition to English teaching and curricula, emerging as a sophisticated educator with deep subject matter expertise. 

This program is open to participants who have a bachelor’s degree and who hold certification or are eligible for certification in secondary education.

Core Course Curriculum

You’ll take a pedagogical core that includes courses in English education, curriculum and research into literacy and language arts, and a practicum in teaching reading and expository writing. You’ll supplement this blend of content training and practical teaching strategies with electives tailored to your specific interests.
