This program requires a minimum of 36 credits, including:
ENGED-GE 2501 Master's Seminar in English Education (3 credits; Fall semester, to be taken at the beginning of the program) and
ENGED-GE 2120 Curriculum and research in English Language Arts,
(3 credits; Fall or Spring semester, to be taken at the end of the program)
Plus 6 credits in courses related to the student's professional goals.
As part of the remaining specialization requirement, students select at least one course from each of the four strands of the English Education curriculum:
- Curriculum and Instruction
- Educational Linguistics
- Reading and Literature
Students in this program who are preparing for college teaching are encouraged to engage in a one-semester field placement as part of the 36-point program.
MA candidates are expected to be members of the National Council of Teachers of English. Full-time students are eligible for student membership at a reduced rate.
