Doctor of Physical Therapy

The NYU Steinhardt Doctor of Physical Therapy program offers a comprehensive 10-semester curriculum designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the field of physical therapy. With our 133-credit degree, you will be trained as a proficient professional adept at injury prevention, fitness maintenance, and physical function restoration. Upon graduating from the NYU DPT program, you will be well-equipped to assume impactful roles in healthcare, including leadership positions, contributions to health policy, and the delivery of top-tier physical therapy services. The program emphasizes training you as an autonomous practitioner, proficient in assessing, diagnosing, and treating physical impairments. As a practitioner, you will collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.

Core Course Sequence

You'll take courses in anatomy and physiology; clinical sciences (covering pathology, imaging, & pharmacology); physical therapy techniques and interventions; critical thinking and clinical decision-making; practical training and observation; and professional development and administration. These courses will prepare you comprehensively for a career as a well-rounded physical therapist

Program Requirements

This program requires the completion of 133 credits including three major papers: a review of the literature, a case report, and the development of a research plan.
