The 128-credit BS in Teaching World Language Education, Grades 7-12 (Initial Certification) program provides students with the opportunity to specialize in Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, or Spanish. The program aims to prepare future educators with a thorough understanding of language development, native cultures, and the importance of multilingual and multicultural awareness. Participants will be exposed to current research and various language acquisition methodologies, equipping them to make well-informed instructional decisions and develop the cross-cultural sensitivity required in this field.
Core Course Sequence
This program's comprehensive coursework covers a wide range of areas, including the NYU CORE, liberal arts, humanities, and social sciences studies, foundational classes in education and education policy, and pedagogical content in language and education. The curriculum ensures that graduates enter teaching with a strong grasp of the special education and educational policy issues that affect schooling. The program of study culminates in two semesters of teaching in a public school middle and high school setting, which provides approaches, theories, and practical strategies for teaching middle and high school students.
