Photography and the Visual Archive

This course examines the role and history of photography within the historical landscape of media and communication. Special emphasis is placed on the accumulative meaning of visual archives, tracing how images relation and establish cultural territories across a variety of texts and media. The course investigates and contrasts the mimetic visual strategies within western and nonwestern traditions, looking at historical and contemporary images in a variety of forms.

Photography I for Non-Majors

The course is focused on photography as an art and photography as a means of communication. It includes aspects of history and the theory of photography and practical photographic education of classic analog/wet darkroom process — i.e. black and white photographic image making and printing. The goal is to develop a new way of seeing through the viewfinder of the camera and to hone critical thinking about photography. This course aims to teach students to experience the photographic works of art and reflect on that experience. Importance is laid on students’ understanding of the photographic image as a means of expressing an individual artistic attitude towards the world.

Physical Agents and Mechanical Modalities (Including Aeseptic Techniques/Infection and Disease Control)

Enables students to apply physical agents and aseptic techniques, including deep thermal modalities (e.g. ultrasound), a thermal modalities (e.g. pulsed ultrasound, pulsed electromagnetic fields), superficial thermotherapy (e.g. heat, paraffin baths, hot packs, fluidotherapy), cryotherapy modalities (cold packs, ice massage), hydrotherapy (e.g. whirlpools, tanks, contrast baths), and phototherapies (e.g. ultraviolet)in order to increase connective tissue extensibilities; modulate pain, reduce or eliminate soft tissue inflammation and swelling caused by musculoskeletal injuries or circulatory dysfunction; increase the healing rate of open wounds and soft tissue; remodel scar tissue; or treat skin conditions. Basic aseptic techniques including bacterial, fungal., and viral infections.
