Jared Shaw (BM `20)

Since graduating, Jared Shaw has held the drum and percussion chair on national tours such as Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and The Book of Mormon.  He has also subbed on Broadway productions, including the dynamic drum set book for Tommy. His performances span a range of genres, including big-band jazz, indie rock, and funk. Jared has played at notable venues like The Kennedy Center, Fox Theater, 54 Below, and the National Theater in Ghana. His experience also includes working in Off-Broadway productions and various studio projects.

Jared earned his degree in Percussion Performance from NYU’s Steinhardt School. His time at NYU was instrumental in preparing him for a versatile career in music. He honed his skills as the first drummer for the NYU Broadway Orchestra, through private lessons, and in ensembles like the African Gyil and Percussion Ensemble. The hands-on training and guidance he received were invaluable, providing him with a solid foundation in both traditional and contemporary musical genres.

NYU percussion alum Brandon Wong

Brandon Wong (MM `18)

Since graduating, Brandon Wong has primarily worked as a drummer and percussionist for live theater productions in the city, surrounding regions, and North American tours. He most recently performed with the Fiddler on the Roof National Tour and will join the Come From Away tour in the fall of 2023. Before hitting the road, he was the Drums and Percussion manager for Boulevard Carroll Entertainment Group while freelancing in the city, performing at notable venues such as 59e59, Green Room 42, 54 Below, and The Player’s Theatre. Brandon regularly performed for the New London Barn Playhouse summer season in New London, NH from 2018-2022.

NYU percussion alum Russell Fisher

Russell Fisher (MM `16)

After graduating, Russell Fisher continued pursuing his education in percussion performance and completed his Doctor of Musical Arts coursework at the Yale School of Music in 2022. His studies included his thesis, “Improving Percussion Pedagogy.” Since moving into the post-residential dissertation phase of the program, Russell has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Ensembles at the University of Bridgeport where he founded two new ensembles, UB Steel, a steel pan ensemble, and the UB Chamber Music Ensemble, dedicated to performing new music for flexible instrumentation. The entrepreneurial spirit fostered by the NYU Percussion studio led Russell to commission several new works, most recently three solos for double seconds steel pans.

NYU Steinhardt percussion alum Morgan Parker

Morgan Parker (MM `22)

Since graduating, Morgan Parker has been steadfast in her commitment to her career as a drummer, rhythmic percussionist and artist. She is currently subbing the percussion book for MJ the Musical on Broadway and subbed the drum/percussion book for the limited run of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish Off-Broadway. When she’s not performing, Morgan is a Stage Manager for The New York Pops, with credits at Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall. 

Additionally, Morgan workshopped and originated the drum/percussion chair for the Off-Broadway shows SKIN and Safe Hands. She recently performed the song cycle of 5 & Dime: A New Musical, and the drum/percussion book for the American Theater Group’s production of Parade. Morgan is also involved in studio sessions, benefit concerts, and cabaret shows, with venue credits including Joe’s Pub, The Cutting Room, Feinstein’s/54 Below, Midnight Theater, Green Room 42, and many more. Among these, Morgan has performed with artists such as Carolee Carmello, Holly James, Meghan Picerno, Roe Hartrampf, and more.

NYU Steinhardt percussion alum Noah Hadland

Noah Hadland (BM `18)

The summer after graduating, Noah took over the drum set chair on the A Chorus Line international tour, performing in Japan and China. After returning to the United States, he went on the road with the National Tour of Waitress, playing 348 performances across the U.S. and Canada for more than 14 months. In New York, he performs regularly in musical theater and has worked as a drum set substitute on Broadway at MJ: The Musical and 1776, as well as Off Broadway at Titanique: The Musical.

Noah is currently back on the road covering the Drum Set and Percussion book with the limited engagement First National Tour of 1776 at such venues as The Ahmanson Theatre - Center for the Arts in Los Angeles and The Forrest Theater in Philadelphia, with an upcoming run this summer at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
