You will gain a liberal arts foundation through a range of core courses, including introductory study of the humanities, social sciences, and scientific inquiry. You’ll also pursue your passion to become a professional performer through core music classes, including music history, music theory, aural comprehension, and keyboard harmony and improvisation.

You will study privately with NYU’s renowned Percussion Studies faculty and receive intense training in solo, chamber, and large ensemble performance. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to take elective classes in music business, music technology, jazz studies, and music education, positioning you to be a leader and an entrepreneur in the ever-evolving world of music.

Live performance is a vital part of your education, and you'll have numerous opportunities to play, both within and beyond the NYU community, participating in percussion ensembles such as NYU Percussion Ensemble, NYU Percussion Chamber Music Ensemble, NYU Steel, and NYU African Gyil and Percussion Ensemble; jazz ensembles; the NYU orchestras; the University Concert Band; and New Music ensembles. You'll study and perform classics, experimental music, world music, commercial music with films, and with dance and mixed ensembles.

Whatever the career path you envision, we will provide you with the expertise and opportunities necessary to realize your dreams. In addition to training to become a top performer in a variety of styles and venues in our Greenwich Village location and beyond, you’ll also learn entrepreneurial skills essential to the real and varied world of the music profession, including concert programming, grant writing, promotional/audience development, website design, and press releases as well as a practical working knowledge of technology commonly used in the music business.
