How to Apply
BM, Instrumental Performance

All prospective and transfer students must apply for admission to NYU Steinhardt. Apply for undergraduate study.

Prescreen Submission

The program in Woodwind Studies requires a pre-screen video to be submitted via GetAcceptd, which is due no later than December 1, 2024. Invitations to schedule a live audition will be sent no later than late January 2025. For further details please contact mpap-woodwind-studies@nyu.edu.

Flute   
Two contrasting selections (selections may include individual movements from different works or single movements works)

Oboe, Bassoon or Saxophone    
Two standard etudes of contrasting styles

Clarinet    
Two contrasting etudes showing the applicant's level of technical and lyrical ability

Doublers    
One short etude on each of your doubles


A pianist is not required for the prescreening video

Audition Dates

Regular Decision

Prescreen is required for Regular Decision applicants.

Prescreening: December 1, 2024

Live Audition: February 22 and 23, 2024

Invitations for final auditions/interviews will be sent by January 2025.

Early Decision I

Prescreen is not required for EDI applicants.

Video audition deadline is November 16, 2024.

Early Decision I applicants should submit audition videos via GetAcceptd.

Early Decision II

Prescreen is required for EDII applicants.

Video audition deadline is January 11, 2025.

Early Decision II applicants should submit audition videos via GetAcceptd.

Note for Transfer Students

  • Though NYU's deadline for Spring transfer admission is October 15 and our deadline for Summer/Fall transfer admission is March 15, we suggest that you submit your Common Application one month in advance. Submitting your Common Application early will leave you more time to schedule an audition by our deadlines above.

Audition Requirements

Flute 
Two contrasting pieces that demonstrate lyrical and technical abilities

Oboe, Bassoon or Saxophone 
One movement of a sonata from the standard repertoire 
First or last movement from a standard concerto and/or other virtuosic solo piece

Clarinet 
Two contrasting etudes showing the applicant's level of technical and lyrical ability 
First or third movement from a standard concerto

Doublers 
One movement from a sonata on primary instrument 
One etude or excerpt on each of your doubles


A pianist is not required for the prescreening video
