On January 29, NYU Los Angeles (NYU LA) hosted their second annual “NYU at the Grammys” event, welcoming industry professionals, alumni, faculty, and other prominent members of the NYU community.
“This gathering represents something vital: our connection to the vibrant, diverse music industry community—composers, producers, technicians, performers across all genres,” said Jack H. Knott, Gale and Ira Drukier Dean at NYU Steinhardt in his opening remarks. “These connections aren't incidental to what we do at Steinhardt; they're essential. Our students learn from practitioners who are shaping the industry. Our curriculum reflects the real challenges and opportunities facing music professionals today. And our alumni network creates pathways that transform careers and lives.”
“At a time when the importance of the arts feels more urgent than ever [...] I'm proud of Steinhardt's holistic approach to arts education,” said Dean Knott. “We don't just train musicians or music business professionals. We educate whole people who understand the cultural, technological, and human dimensions of their field. We prepare students not just to succeed in the industry as it exists today, but to shape the industry of tomorrow.”
Dean Knott recognized many contributors for their work leading up to the successful event, including Nina Sadowsky, program director at NYU LA, and NYU Steinhardt faculty Susan Dodes, clinical assistant professor; Carlos Chirinos-Espin, assistant professor and director of NYU Music and Social Change Lab; Larry Miller, clinical professor and executive director of the Sony Audio Institute; Judy Tint, clinical associate professor of music business; and Marcie Allen, music adjunct faculty.
Also in attendance was Chandrika Tandon, a member of the NYU Board of Trustees, who won her first Grammy last year for her most recent album, Triveni.
