Founded by an NYU Grad, the Bushwick Film Festival is Empowering Diverse Storytellers

Media, Culture, and Communication alum Kweighbaye Kotee (BS ‘09) founded the festival while a Steinhardt student. The festival will celebrate 15 years next fall.

Jordan Cohen (BS 2011)
Jordan Cohen is an Executive Director of Communications at the New York Times where he oversees external communications for The Times's standalone subscription products, including Cooking, Games and The Athletic, contributing to their growth and subscriber engagement. Since joining The Times in 2011 as a communications assistant, Jordan has implemented communications and PR strategies that emphasize the value of independent journalism and showcase the strength of The Times’s subscription business to global audiences. As a member of the external communications team for over a decade, Jordan has led publicity campaigns for a variety of initiatives including the launch of the “New York Times Audio” app; the acquisitions of Wordle and Serial Productions; “The 1619 Project” and its various forms; and several award-winning film and television projects including “Framing Britney Spears” and “The Weekly."

Yvette Pacheco (BS 2006)
Yvette is Vice President of Communications at BBC Studios where she leads a team of communicators responsible for raising the profile and visibility of the company's portfolio in North America & Latin America. She's previously held roles in corporate and consumer communications at leading agencies and brands, including Univision and NASCAR. Yvette was named to PRWeek's 40 Under 40 list in 2019 and Cynopsis Top Women in Media in 2020.

Daniel Soto Morfín (MA 2014)
Daniel is the Manager of Public Relations for Netflix Mexico. Previously Daniel was the Head of Regional Clients for Latin America at Edelman, leading the corporate practice of the firm in Mexico. He advises regional and global clients from different sectors and industries on corporate reputation, executive positioning, crisis, and thought leadership. His thesis examined the changing relationship between media and public officials.

Xiaochang Li (PhD 2017)
Xiaochang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Stanford University. Her teaching and research interests include the history of computing and information systems, AI and algorithmic culture, speech and language technology, and software/platform studies. Before joining Stanford, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin.

Ronnie works in international streaming, business development, and distribution for Paramount. Previously she served as programming editor at BritBox, BBC Studios, where she acquired content for the British streaming service.

Tobias Keunecke (BS 2016)
Tobi is a PR and talent relations specialist with a background in entertainment and digital media. He currently works as a PR Specialist at Netflix in London - with stints in Berlin and Amsterdam - where he oversees and supports Netflix's global film and documentary feature campaigns for the UK and EMEA region. These have included campaigns such as All Quiet on the Western Front, The Deepest Breath, The Irishman and the upcoming Rebel Moon. Prior to Netflix, he was a Publicist across BuzzFeed's entertainment and commerce divisions in New York and was a PR Intern at Fox Broadcasting Company, ID Public Relations, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group.

Sedem Banini (MA 2019)
Sedem is currently a Business Analyst consulting for the Estee Lauder Companies on eCommerce and Global Online projects. Prior to her time at ELC, she did public relations and worked on corporate events at The One Event with clients such as Vlisco and Infinix. Having studied musical theatre as a media form at MCC, Sedem’s latest project is creating a musical based on Ghana’s independence movement.

Victoria Caña (BS 16)
In 2021, Forbes named Media, Culture, and Communication alum Victoria Caña to its list of 30 under 30 in Games. Caña serves as a lead producer at Riot Games, creator of The League of Legends, one of the most played games in the world. Caña cofounded a studio called Cat Quartet Games, responsible for Gladius, and she was named to the 2021 Game Awards Future Class: a group of individuals who represent the "bright, bold, and inclusive future of video games."

Liz Una Kim (BS 2012)
Liz Kim (@lizunakim) is a product marketer with a background in digital media and e-commerce, obsessed with how retail is evolving IRL and online. She currently works at Meta as a Product Marketing Lead, focused on innovating ad formats across Instagram and Facebook. Liz was a founding member of Soko Glam's proprietary skincare line Then I Met You as well as BuzzFeed's marketing team. She started her career in print editorial, producing fashion shoots at Vanity Fair and covers at The New Yorker. Liz is passionate about building diverse and equitable spaces, and holds donation-based office hours to guide aspiring professionals. When she's not working or hosting office hours, she's probably surfing, dancing, shopping or beating jetlag somewhere.
