The MAT in Teaching Students with Disabilities and Computer Science Education prepares you to be an in-service educator, working to support students with disabilities within CS education contexts. Building on dynamic research and relevant special education practices, students are trained to become inclusive and equitable educators working with a varied and multifaceted student population. This program aims to equip students with the tools to Integrate theory/research and practice, develop and implement discipline-based curricula and individualize instruction and assessment to meet student needs.
Core Course Sequence
You’ll take pedagogical core courses in both computer science education and special education, covering topics of language and literacy acquisition and development, adolescent learners in urban contexts, the teaching of computer science, and issues in special education policy. You’ll participate in workshops in world language education, as well as specialized fieldwork in both computer science education and special education through two mentored student teaching experiences. Upon completion of this program, students are equipped with the skills needed to be dynamic educators, fostering inclusive environments for students in computer science and special education classrooms.
