Curriculum

MA, Music Business

This 42-credit master’s program will submerge students into the world of music business firsthand through introductions to the people at the top of the industry. Through internships and a rigorous curriculum, students will gain a full knowledge of finances, legal and technological comprehension, leadership skills, and an in-depth understanding of global markets — all while perfecting an ability to do strategic analysis and future planning. Masters students are also invited to be a part of the Music Business Student Ambassador Board, the University Program Board, and the NYU radio station WNYU.

Prepare to pursue a career in music business by obtaining a deep understanding of the regulations, systems, practices and rules of the business. Master the skills needed to be a strong leader and successful entrepreneur.

For students with academic or professional experience in technology, we offer a concentration in Music Technology. Learn the connection between audio for games and interactive applications and the music business. Those in the concentration will accomplish these projects as part of their final. Develop mobile apps, present business and technology strategies to government agencies, promote emerging global music trends through technology, and use recorded music to create IP assets.

The program requires the completion of 42 credits, and offers a concentration in Music Technology (see below for concentration requirements).

Note: Statistics is a prerequisite for this program. This prerequisite may be met by prior work at the undergraduate or graduate level with a passing grade of "B" or better. Students who have not met this prerequisite will complete this requirement during their first semester and graduate with 45 credits.
