Educational Policy Analysis

In this doctoral seminar, students will develop an understanding of the ways in which they may inquire about policy issues relevant in their academic and professional lives. By exploring in depth a substantial body of knowledge drawn from selected cases and current theoretical issues, students will study the development of policy, the instruments used to effect policy, and some analyses of implementation.

Exploration of educational reform and leadership in the context of fundamental economic, cultural and technological changes that have occurred globally particularly in the last 30 years. Educational technologies have become essential for international exchange as a "leapfrog" technology for development, as a way of bridging distance in education, and as an important means for the preservation and dissemination of local cultures and contexts. Educational technology is a significant and growing force worldwide, and not only in industrialized nations. E-learning, open educational resources, m-learning, and educational media are transforming not only formal primary, secondary, and postsecondary education, but also rural economic development, agriculture, and women's empowerment. In this course, we look at how educational communications and technology shape, and are shaped by, their context internationally.

Electroacoustic Comp

This course is designed to introduce the student to contemporary practices of creating and presenting electroacoustic music from the practical perspectives of analyzing works and understanding current technologies and aesthetic paradigms. In addition to musicological issues, composition will be placed in the wider context of contemporary art and New Media practices. This is a composition class that uses a music appreciation format to teach music creation today.Practical compositional lectures by Michal Rataj will focus on the analysis of a few key works, each dealing with specific aspects of music and technology and individual compositional approaches. Eric Rosenzveig will present theoretical classes providing an overview, background and competing theories from the varied perspectives of the artist, philosopher, technologist, musician and composer. We will try and look at the question “why” in addition to “how” to make a new work. We'll listen to many shorter works in class, to provide context to our discussions.

Electrotherapeutic Modalities

Application of electrotherapeutic modalities, including alternating, direct, and pulsed current (e.g. high voltage galvanic stimulation, interferential current), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), functional electrical stimulation (FES) for improving posture for movement, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), iontophoresis, electrical muscle stimulation, and biofeedback in order to: modulate or decrease pain; reduce or eliminate soft tissue inflammation caused by musculoskeltelal, neuromuscular, peripheral vascular, or integumentary injury, disease, developmental delay, or surgery; maintain strength after injury or surgery; decrease unwanted muscular activity; assist muscle contraction in gait or other functional training; or increase the rate of healing of open wounds.
