A supervised and individualized study culminating in a professional portfolio of recorded works, analysis, and documentation that represent the skills and expertise of the Tonmeister Studies. A panel of experts in the fields of sound recording and music production will review the portfolio. Successful completion of the Advanced Certificate in Tonmeister Studies requires a positive evaluation of the portfolio and written documentation.

Communication in Aging and Neurogenic Disorders

An overview of the nature, course, and severity of communication disorders resulting from neurological injury or disease, including impact of acquired neurologically-based communication disorders on the geriatric population. Topics include neurological basis of aphasia, dementia, traumatic brain injury, motor speech impairment, and dysphagia, as well as current evaluation strategies and treatment programs for these and related disorders. Effects of normal and pathological aging on speech, voice, language, cognition, hearing, and swallowing will also be examined.

The approach to mentoring will follow closely the practices of the New Teacher Center, which include a formative assessment system based on the Danielson Framework, self-directed inquiry and professional growth planning, attention to teaching artifacts like student work, videos of practice, and synchronous as well as asynchronous online protocols to guide collective learning conversations about how to improve participants' teaching practice. Participants, under the guidance of the NYU faculty mentor, will attempt to solve real-time problems, share resources, improve existing teaching tools and develop new ones, observe best practices, and learn from master teachers.

Community Psychology

Community psychology focuses on the application of psychological theory, concepts and knowledge to address the needs, concerns and aspirations of communities. Specifically, community psychology is concerned with person environment interactions and the ways in which society impacts on individual and community functioning. Community psychology adopts a collectivist paradigm in understanding behaviour and in applying relevant methods and techniques. This course will introduce students to the field of community psychology with emphasis on theory and methods of community psychology within the context of the psycho-social needs of the Ghanaian society. Topics include: the history of community psychology; doing community research; prevention and health promotion; interventions and program evaluation; community mental health, understanding communities and social and community change.
