The application deadlines for our on-campus master's programs and advanced certificates are almost upon us! Now's the time to start your application for graduate study – here are 12 ways you can take advantage of the holidays to get closer to your academic and career goals:
- Get ready to apply – Review requirements, deadlines, and more in your program’s Graduate Application Guide.

- Start your application!
- Develop your statement of purpose – This is your opportunity to introduce yourself and let the Admissions Committee know how your goals connect with your program, so make it count.
- Decide who will provide your 2–3 recommendation letters and reach out – Contact your recommenders early to give them time to provide a thoughtful letter. Learn more about letters of recommendation.
- Create or update your resume/curriculum vitae – We require a resume or curriculum vitae for all master’s and advanced certificate programs. NYU’s Wasserman Center has resume tips and examples if you need help getting started.
- Scan and upload your transcripts online – We require one official copy of your transcript from every post-secondary school you attended to be uploaded to your online application. Learn more about transcripts.
- Prepare supplemental application materials – Additional materials may be required for your program, including writing samples, additional essays, portfolios, and more. Not sure what you need? Check your Graduate Application Guide!
- Upload and double-check required documents – Upload all your required documents to the application system and make sure you have submitted all required materials for your program.
- Pay your fee and make sure you click the “submit” button on your application.
- Make requests for standardized test scores now – If you need to submit standardized test scores such as GRE, TOEFL, and/or IELTS, make your requests now. Learn more about reporting your scores.
- Explore scholarships and other financial aid opportunities – If you are a US citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen, be sure to prepare and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.
