Edward Malave

Eddy Malave is a native of Long Island, New York, where he began his musical training on the viola under Irene Stitt and piano under Ana Maria Trenchi de Bottazzi. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School in viola performance, studying under William Lincer, were he was the recipient of the William Gluck fellowship. Past teachers have included Patinka Kopec, Margaret Pardee, Roland Vamos, Heidi Castleman and Joey Corpus.

Eddy has performed  in numerous recitals and as an orchestral member throughout Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, Asia, and the South Pacific. Mr. Malave has also performed before President Bill Clinton at the Middle East peace talks (Israel Forum Policy) and for Pope Benedict during his visit to New York City. He has also worked with artists as diverse as Placido Domingo, Renee Fleming, Deborah Voight, Sir Elton John, Billy Joel, Patti Lupone, Bryan Adams, Andrea Bocelli, and Dimitri Rostropovich, to name a few. He has collaborated with DJ Victor Calderone, A.R. Rahman, Yanna Avis, John Lloyd Young, and many other prominent artists in various venues around the world. Currently as an active freelance violist, some of the ensembles he has performed with in the NYC area are the Se Jong Soloists, the Orchestra of St. Lukes, NYC Ballet, American Ballet Theater and NYC Opera. He has played in a number of Broadway shows and is currently playing for The Phantom of the Opera

Mr. Malave is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique (American Center for the Alexander Technique and AmSAT certified), having studied extensively with Thom Lemmons and John Nicholls. Eddy has presented the Alexander Technique at the British Columbia Music Teachers conference in Surrey, B.C., Canada, at the American Institute of Musical Studies (A.I.M.S.) in Graz, Austria, at the Volterra Project in Volterra, Italy, at the National Conservatory of Music in Amman, Jordan, at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, at the North Carolina School of the arts in Winston- Salem, N.C., The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Orquestra Academica de Buenos Aires and the Institute for the Alexander Technique in Buenos Aires, Argentina,  at the 2012 International Viola Congress held at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and for the Imani winds chamber music festival at the Juilliard School in New York.

Mr. Malave is a certified Suzuki violin/viola teacher, maintaining a private studio as well as serving on the faculty of the Third Street Music Settlement in New York City. As a teacher of the Alexander Technique, he is a faculty member in the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at NYU Steinhardt. He maintains a private studio as well.
