Joining String Studies, what are you most excited about?
I am very excited about joining the String Studies program, as it attracts students from all around the world who are passionate about their studies and offers the chance to be part of a faculty of world-renowned musicians. Additionally, being in the heart of New York City, one of the centers of classical music, provides an inspiring environment.
Do you come from a family of musicians.
Yes, my father plays the double bass and performed with the Istanbul Symphony for 43 years before retiring; he continues to teach. My older brother is a pianist and has his own private teaching studio.
What made you choose the cello?
I chose the cello because I grew up going to my father’s symphony concerts almost every week. After listening to some guest cellists as soloists, I loved the instrument’s sound and the concertos written for it.
Among your many professional successes, which means the most to you?
I have always enjoyed performing and receiving feedback from the audience. However, what I find most fulfilling about my career is the success of my students; it brings me a profound sense of accomplishment.
Your mother is a luthier?
Yes, it’s a wonderful experience to play on an instrument made by my mother. I genuinely enjoy its sound, and whenever I play, I feel a connection to our family’s shared love for music.
