Patricia A. Gentile, OTR/L, DPS, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at New York University, where she serves as Director of the MS and Entry-Level OTD Programs. She earned a Doctor of Professional Studies in Occupational Therapy from NYU and a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Hunter College. Dr. Gentile is also a graduate of the Occupational Therapy Program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
In addition to many years of clinical experience in adult rehabilitation, Dr. Gentile has extensive experience in home health and hospital administration. Prior to joining NYU, she served as Administrator for the Department of Surgery and Level I Trauma Center at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. In this role, she developed a strong interest in traumatic injury prevention and has since presented at professional conferences on the role of occupational therapy in this area. She has also co-authored publications on traumatic falls in older adults and OT/OTA intraprofessional collaboration.
Dr. Gentile is a frequent presenter at state and national conferences on topics including occupational therapy education, leadership, and healthcare administration. In 2026, she received the Alumni Excellence Award from the SUNY Downstate Occupational Therapy Program. She was recognized by the New York State Occupational Therapy Association in 2022 for her contributions and dedication to the occupational therapy profession, received the Steinhardt GSO Award in 2020, and was named a Distinguished City University of New York Alumna in 2011.
Dr. Gentile’s current professional interests include healthcare leadership and administration, health advocacy, and teaching and learning pedagogy in higher education.
