Applied Psychology

Allison Hanauer, PhD, is a clinical psychologist originally from Connecticut, but currently living and practicing outside of Memphis, TN.  Dr Hanauer has specialized in the treatment of PTSD and secondary traumatization for over 20 years.  She completed an Air Force residency and several years of active duty time as a military psychologist treating patients of all ages, directing mental health, substance abuse and family violence clinics, developing clinical and educational programs for the military community and deploying overseas as one of the first female Air Force members on the ground in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  

Dr Hanauer has owned her own practice where she treated adolescents and adults for a variety of mental health conditions, worked heavily in the area of treatment of trauma, and also served as a VAMC disability evaluator, a personnel fit for duty assessor and a member of a national crisis team.  

Dr Hanauer has taught undergraduate courses at Virginia Tech, a variety of applied classes for the Department of Defense and local medical facilities, and has been an adjunct faculty member for NYU's Department of Applied Psychology since 2018.  

Dr Hanauer also has an M.S. in Management and Administrative Sciences with a specialization in Executive Coaching and a MS in Leadership and Organizational Development.  She has served as an executive coach for several regional organizations, including medical institutions, engineering companies and financial firms.  Her executive coaching services focus on leadership development, communication, team building and development of strategic thinking within high potential STEM professionals.  

Most recently Dr Hanauer has been working as a Director of Organizational and Talent Development for a regional healthcare organization where she is responsible for talent assessment, learning and development, leadership coaching and instruction, succession planning, performance reviews, climate assessment and strategic planning and general organizational needs assessment and leader consultation.
