An Online Curriculum for Passionate School Counselors

Counseling@NYU’s faculty thoughtfully designed the curriculum to equip you with the skills you need to ensure students of diverse backgrounds thrive in their interpersonal relationships and academic development.

By the end of the program, you will be able to:

  • Build healthy, trusting, and helpful relationships between you and pre-K–12 students, as well as their teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders, and adapt your practice to your students’ developmental needs.
  • Assess students based on socio-historical contexts and pay close attention to issues of power and privilege triggered by gender, race and ethnicity, class, religion, sexual orientation, and language abilities.
  • Create and deliver a data-driven school counseling program that supports every student’s academic, career, personal, and social development.

You will have the opportunity to choose one of two concentrations: school counseling or bilingual school counseling. If you choose the bilingual concentration, you will also be prepared to identify issues relevant to student populations for whom English is a second language and apply appropriate resolutions. You must be able to participate in required supervised fieldwork within the five boroughs of New York City in order to pursue the bilingual concentration.
