Justin John Moniz, NYU Steinhardt Associate Director of Vocal Performance & Coordinator of Vocal Pedagogy, has been named the 2025 Ellen Faull Master Teacher by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
“Dr. Moniz was recently selected as a 2025 master teacher for our most high profile mentoring event, the NATS Intern Program. Only four teachers are chosen each year to mentor a class of early career voice teachers in this intense ten day professional development event and it is considered one of the highest honors to be asked to serve in this program. His selection further validates the work he is doing at NYU and the impact he has throughout the field,” says Allen Henderson, NATS Executive Director
Held May 20-30, 2025, at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, this program pairs participants with veteran master teachers to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and techniques, helping attendees return to their studios with enhanced teaching and coaching skills.
The Ellen Faull Master Teacher is named in honor of the great American operatic soprano and voice teacher. Ellen Faull was primarily associated with New York City Opera, where she sang from 1947 until 1978 and created the role of Abigail Borden in Jack Beason’s opera, Lizzie Borden. After her retirement from the opera stage, she taught singing at Sarah Lawrence College, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Juilliard School.
Founded in 1944, National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. (NATS) is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world with more than 7,000 members in the United States, Canada, and more than 35 other countries. Whether working in independent studios, community schools, elementary and secondary schools, or higher education, NATS members represent the diversity of today’s music landscape, teaching in all vocal styles.
