Hirokazu Yoshikawa, Courtney Sale Ross University Professor of Globalization and Education in the Department of Applied Psychology, has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Letters (AAAS).
Yoshikawa is a community and developmental psychologist who studies the effects of public policies and programs related to immigration, early childhood, poverty reduction, and sexuality on children’s development. The co-director of NYU’s Global TIES for Children, Yoshikawa is currently leading the research and evaluation of Ahlan Simsim, an initiative directed by Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee to educate young children displaced by conflict and persecution in the Middle East. He also leads the evaluation of a large-scale partnership with Sesame Workshop and BRAC to provide early childhood development programming for Rohingya refugee and host communities in Bangladesh.
The new class of AAAS fellows will be inducted at a ceremony this October in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Yoshikawa is among eight NYU faculty members selected for this honor.
