Summer Electronic Music Institute (SEMI)

The Summer Electronic Music Institute (SEMI) is designed for rising high school juniors and seniors. Students will focus on producing music and technology for improving their production skills and enabling live electronic music composition, improvisation and/or performance. Participants will collaborate with faculty and current students of the program to develop workflows, tools and techniques that expand their production and performance options beyond their existing skill set.

Intended For:

High School Students

To broaden the scope of young electronic music producers we will engage the following topics:

  • Circuit building
  • Production Strategies
  • Controller Development
  • Physics of Sound
  • Sound Design
  • Hearing
  • Improvisation with technology
  • Video Art

The daily activities include morning lectures and workshops, guided and collaborative labs and minimally supervised group project and development time. The program concludes with a technology exhibition and a performance. Students will leave the program with new found skills and ideas for the future, as well as new works for their artistic and/or business portfolios. Electronic Musicians and EDM producers should apply to this program.
