Advanced Brass Performance Training and a Liberal Arts Education 

Get intensive performance training at a renowned liberal arts university. In this bachelor of music program, you will study one-on-one with our faculty and gain experience performing in a multitude of ensembles, including playing standard orchestral repertoire and new music with the NYU Symphony and Philharmonia. You'll be prepared for a career as a professional musician.

How You'll Learn

A Full Liberal Arts Education in a Conservatory Setting
Your undergraduate studies will consist of 128 points, or credits: 40 in liberal arts and 88 in music. You will complete a range of liberal arts core courses, including introductory study of the humanities, social sciences, science, and quantitative reasoning, as well as gain a broad foundation of music theory and history. 

Performance Opportunities at NYU and Throughout New York City
You'll have myriad opportunities to perform in our chamber groups, including brass quintets, quartets, and trios, and the NYU Brass Choir. The department hosts several mixed ensembles, as well as opportunities to perform in fully staged operas, music theatre productions, recording studio dates, and film scoring projects. You will present recitals in your junior and senior years. 

Dual degree option: BM Music Performance/MA Music Education

We also offer a dual degree that allows you to earn a bachelor of music in composition or performance and a master of arts in music education in only five years. You can take courses towards your graduate degree during your junior and senior years, then complete the MA in one additional year of study, becoming eligible for New York State initial certification as a teacher of music, grades K-12.
