In 2021, NYU Steinhardt partnered with the Americana Music Association Foundation to enhance the understanding of and appreciation for the origins, history, and cultural impact of Americana music. As part of the partnership, Steinhardt and the Americana Foundation launched the Artist-in-Residence program. The 2022-2023 Artist-in-Residence was Grammy-winning musician Taj Mahal.
