Every February, the NYU Program in Drama Therapy opens the doors to our Theatre & Health Lab to present our latest research, examine current and emerging innovations, and inspire a culture of inquiry in drama therapy. 

This year's events are as follows: (all times are in EST)

  1. February 5th, Monday, 8 - 9:30 am | Using participatory theatre to eliminate discrimination in NYC health service delivery
  2. February 8th, Thursday, 8 - 9 am | Effectiveness of Drama-Based Therapies on Mental Health Outcomes
  3. February 8th, Thursday, 6 - 7:30 pm| Postnormal Possibilities: Shifting the Cultures of Practice in Drama Therapy
  4. February 12th, Monday, 8 - 9 am | An overview of Drama therapy student research in North America: 2017-2022
  5. February 15th, Thursday, 6 - 7:30 pm | The Hero/Shero’s Journey: telling personal story using the Improvised Musical Drama Therapy (IMDT) model
  6. February 19th, Monday, 8 - 9:30 am | Book Launches: ‘Trauma-Informed Drama Therapy: Transforming Clinics, Classrooms, and Communities (2nd Edition)’ & ‘Dramatherapy and the Bereaved Child Telling the Truth to Children During Difficult Times’
  7. February 22nd, Thursday, 8 - 9 am | Student Theses Poster Presentations and Visiting Scholar Talk
  8. February 22nd, Thursday, 6 - 7:30 pm | Identifying the Drama Therapy Core Processes in Clinical Practice Demonstrations: Operationalizing, Observing, and Coding

Continuing Education Units: 

Please note on the registration form if you will be seeking a certificate for CEs. Registration and attendance is required to obtain CEs and will be recorded. Each event will offer 1-1.5 LCAT and RDT CEs. Those marked with an asterisk will also count towards RDT-CHED CEs. NYU is a recognized LCAT - CE provider (#0062).

Objectives:

  • Participants will identify trends in drama therapy theory, policy and practice

  • Participants will discuss new research in drama therapy

  • Participants will be able to incorporate a social justice lens in drama therapy with an emphasis on disability, age, gender, sexual orientation, and race
