The U.S. and English-language premiere of Carl Orff’s Astutuli, a collaborative performance among students from NYU Steinhardt Educational Theatre, Vocal Performance, and Tisch Drama. The performance features the NYU Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Jonathan Haas.

Composed in 1953, Astutuli is a satire showcasing Orff’s vision of music, movement, and spoken word coming together for an immersive theatrical experience. In this musical fable, a sly trickster deceives an entire village, but begs a question that still rings true today: who’s really the fool?

Directed by Nancy Smithner. The production features visual and costume design by noted artist Doug Frohman and lighting design by James Kolditz. English translation and musical coordination by Jess Ong.

Ticket required.
