After USAID: What the Aid Withdrawal Means for Global Education and What Comes Next

Join the International Education program in welcoming Dr. Elena Walls, former Research Policy Team Lead at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which was shut down in 2025. She will share her research on the global impact of the shuttering of USAID on education and her perspective on the future of foreign intervention in education and other sectors as the global landscape continues to shift into a new era.

Dr. Elena Walls is a dedicated education researcher, program evaluator, and translator of data and evidence into insights and actions. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Walls has implemented research studies, designed evaluations, managed research teams, and worked at organizations like USAID and the Education Development Center (EDC). She is passionate about translating complex information into clear, actionable steps. Whether it’s figuring out how well a program is working, understanding what’s behind the numbers, or spotting ways to make things better, she is there to help.
